This Sunday, 14 August I’ll be attempting to achieve a personal record at the 14km City2Surf 2016 of under 75 minutes. Based on my recent running times, sub-75 minutes looks well within reach.

What is a more ambitious target yet hopefully still in reach is a sub-70 minute time, or under 5 min per km.

The hardest part of the race is probably the big incline at 6-8km, called Heartbreak Hill.

The start of the race will be challenging too due to traffic. There will literally be thousands of participants so there is unlikely to be free passage.

Five days to go – I need to get more rest earlier each of the following nights and go for an easy run on Friday and/or Saturday.

  • Lunch: pumpkin soup with vegetables and tofu
  • Dinner: onion and seaweed omelette, pumpkin soup with tofu and peas
  • Other: banana, apple, blueberries
