A highlight of a talk by Martin Hosking, CEO Redbubble today was that an effective company, in his mind, will have a culture and norms in place that support organizational learning.

A learning system means employees are encouraged to test and experiment, and a feedback loop ensures lessons from the experiment are learned and then fed into organizational improvements.

If two organisations are competing for market share in a rapidly changing and dynamic environment, the organisation that is able to learn quickly, and adapt and be ‘agile’ to the changing circumstances will succeed in the long-term.
