There’s too much content out there – books, magazines, online articles, newspaper articles, etc – for us to fully consume in our lifetimes.

So on one view, we are subject to information overload.

We, therefore, have to be selective. We have to choose what to read and we have to recognise the opportunity cost considerations of reading some things and not others.

The selection process of what to read and ignore is very important. I reckon this is where most people struggle, and that perhaps it is a greater struggle than information overload.

So, the other view is that we face ‘filter failure‘.

If you agree that the problem is filter failure and not information overload, then what are the tools and processes that can help us filter information and leave only those items that will most benefit us?
